We love the Bluegrass – maybe as much as you do. We love its people, its sights, and its stories. More than anything, we want the Commonwealth’s best features to be well-connected and easily accessible.
The Kentucky Way is a project to make our Commonwealth entirely walkable and bikeable, from one end to the other.
How — and why — will we do it?
Take a walk with us.
A LAND WORTH WALKING
A COMMONWEALTH AT RISK
Why do we need a Kentucky Way? Three reasons…
Kentucky’s natural beauty demands protection. More visibility for that beauty means more advocacy on its behalf.
We need to take a walk. The state’s obesity rate covers over a third of the population, and our mental health demands greater stewardship.
Our small towns deserve attention. With rural counties’ population declining by over 6% in the last census, we have to give these communities a fighting chance to keep their locals and invest in their futures.
Imagine a project that…
Provides unprecedented access to the full scope of Kentucky’s natural beauty
Reveals the incredible history of Kentucky, as well as the people who have made it so
Reforges ties between the land and its caretakers
Promotes healthy and active lifestyles
Stimulates new interest and investment in the Commonwealth
Connects the people and communities of the state to each other, and to the visiting community of hikers
Catalyzes new infrastructural improvement alongside ecological stewardship
